Of Seas, Of Shores

wedding dress

The sea sucks you right inside
The sand begins to shift
Under your feet – as you lift
Your dress to see a webwork of white
Liquid chains that hold you tight.

There’s something fiercely free
In the winds that slap your face
Splattering droplets as you race
Away from rain, wind and sea
Away, away, from all that you see!

The distant waves weave dark blues
That move into thunderous teals
Then the listless brown quietly steals
In, edged in white, lacy hues
Hoary accountant, thumbing your dues.

A wedding dress unravelled
A Life that came apart
Gathered deep in its heart
Now tossing around in glee –
Untrammelled and free.

Standing by the sea
With its million mysteries
You sigh, you stare –
Always Almost –
But never quite. Dare.
